The Pakistan Cricket Team, often referred to as the “Men in Green,” now boasts a rating of 113.483, surpassing both Australia (113.286) and India (112.638) and becomes the ICC No 1 – ODI Rankings in the world.
In a resounding victory on Friday in Karachi, Pakistan triumphed over New Zealand by a margin of 102 runs, further solidifying their dominance with a commanding 4-0 lead in the ongoing five-match ODI series.
With this impressive win over the Kiwis in the fourth ODI, Pakistan Cricket Team has achieved a remarkable milestone by ascending to the coveted number one position in the ODI team rankings. This marks a historic moment as it is the first time since the ICC officially introduced rankings in January 2005 that Pakistan has claimed this top spot. This achievement surpasses their earlier ranking of number three, which they had attained back in January 2007.
Notably, at the outset of the series, Pakistan was positioned fifth in the ODI rankings with a rating of 106. However, their exceptional performance has propelled them to a new echelon.
The Men in Green now boast an impressive rating of 113.483, surpassing both Australia (113.286) and India (112.638), the former giants of the rankings.
Nevertheless, maintaining this newfound supremacy requires consistent excellence. To retain their number one position, Pakistan must strive for a clean sweep by securing victory in the fifth and final ODI scheduled for Sunday, 7 May. Should they falter in the ultimate encounter, there’s a risk of slipping back to the third spot, thereby allowing Australia to reclaim their reign at the ICC No 1 – ODI Rankings.
Adding an intriguing dimension, Pakistan could also secure their place at the summit if they win the fourth ODI and the fifth match is either abandoned or concludes without a definitive result.
As the cricketing world anticipates the outcome of the series finale, Pakistan’s rise to the pinnacle serves as a testament to their prowess and determination in the realm of ODI cricket.
